Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American TV reporter, journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language and culture from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. She was a reporter for the CBS subsidiary WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. She joined NBC News Washington two years after that as general reporter. From 1981 onwards, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she was named the chief reporter for Congress. She was appointed as the head White House correspondent by NBC News in 1992. Mitchell hosted and participated as a panelist at the TV program Meet the Press. She served as a panelist in the presidential debates in 1988 with George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married Alan Greenspan a former chairman the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received in 2005 her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism at The John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) was honoured Mitchell for her contribution in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. It was a time when both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell reported on a variety of important stories including the Iran Contra scandal, fiscal tax reforms, and the arms control. She traveled with Ronald Reagan several times to attend summits and discuss topics including the Iran Contra controversy.
